Groups

A group stage followed by playoffs.

In short: Groups is a three-round tournament: artists are split into groups of up to four, the best two of each go to the semifinal and the top three reach the final. Every round needs new work on the shared reference.

How it feels

You know right away who is next to you: a group of three or four artists is your closest rivals. Round after round the bracket narrows, and the feeling of “I am moving on” becomes a real reward.

This mode loves consistency: you have to show up three times. Whoever survives the semifinal and keeps their form for the final gets the rare experience of a real tournament on real work.

Who it is for

For anyone who likes tournament dynamics and is ready to step into the arena several times in a row.

  • schools and studios with 8–16 students
  • anyone who wants a clear “group → final” route
  • artists ready for regular practice

How points work

  • In every round the score is the independent panel’s average total (maximum 30).
  • Groups are drawn automatically and locked; works are still scored blind.
  • Semifinalist status is awarded if you have a scored piece in the second round of a completed event.

An artist’s playbook

Save your strength

Three rounds mean three pieces. Plan your workload and do not spend your best on the first stage.

One codeword for the whole event

The personal word stays the same, but the work in every round must be new.

Know your group

You see who is in your group and can calmly agree on shooting times — scores stay anonymous.

Spectators

Spectators can follow PMU Quest events without competing. If the creator enables the optional audience award for a new event, a separate 72-hour vote opens only after the official judges finalize the results. It never changes sporting places or craft ratings.
